New UK and Ireland boss named by IHG Hotels & Resorts

Joanna Kurowska has been promoted as new UK & Ireland managing director for IHG Hotels & Resorts.

She was most recently based in Frankfurt as operations director for Northern Europe as part of a 10-year career with the hotel group.

Kurowska will be responsible for driving sustainable hotel performance in the existing UK and Ireland portfolio and working with owners and investors to unlock the growth potential for IHG’s brands, according to the company.

The role was previously held by Karan Khanna, who has left the company to take up another role.

IHG has 358 hotels operating under eight brands in the UK and Ireland including InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts, Hotel Indigo, voco Hotels, Holiday InnHotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites.

“As the UK reopens following recent restrictions, Joanna is focused on delivering true hospitality for guests in the safest way possible as she leads the responsible recovery of IHG’s business in UK&I in a time of growth for the region,” IHG said.

Karin Sheppard, senior vice president managing sirector Europe, said: “During her 10 years at IHG Hotels & Resorts, Joanna has risen through the ranks at a rapid pace and has built an excellent reputation as a team collaborator, people developer and a highly valued partner for owners.

“I am excited to see her take on her latest challenge leading the team at this crucial stage for growth in our home market.”

Kurowska added: “I am honoured to take on this role at such an important time for UK&I.
