Air Canada plans seasonal London-India route

Air Canada plans to serve India from Heathrow with flights to Mumbai.

The service, together with a planned new winter seasonal route between Vancouver and Bangkok, is subject to receiving final government approval.

Three-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft will be deployed on both routes with Mumbai flights from Toronto via London due to start on October 29.

The carrier is bolstering its international winter network to the South Pacific region with the return of seasonal service from Vancouver to Auckland and additional flights to Sydney and Brisbane.

Services to South America are being resumed with seasonal routes from Montreal and Toronto to Lima in Peru.

UK and Ireland general manager sales Stephen Gerrard said: “We are extremely pleased to announce the launch of our new non-stop fifth freedom service between London Heathrow and Mumbai.

“Our new flights will provide our customers in the UK with a direct link to India’s vibrant and largest city, Mumbai.”

Network planning and revenue management senior vice president Mark Galardo said: “We are excited to return to Mumbai, India’s largest city and an important financial, commercial, and entertainment hub, complementing our 13 weekly flights from Canada to Delhi.

“Our Mumbai services are scheduled to operate with a stop in London Heathrow, offering connectivity to more than a dozen Air Canada and Star Alliance partner United Airlines flights between North America and London, as well as additional options for travel between the UK and India.

“The India market remains very important to Air Canada, and we are committed to resuming our currently paused non-stop services on Toronto-Mumbai and Vancouver-Delhi when circumstances allow.”
