Edinburgh is gaining a new summer transatlantic service next year.
JetBlue is to start seasonal flights to Boston in addition to serving New York from the Scottish capital.
The daily Boston connection starts from Edinburgh on May 23 and runs until October 25.
JetBlue’s Airbus A321 two class single aisle aircraft will operate the route with special introductory return fares starting at £449 for and £2,199 in ‘Mint’ premium class.
The airline is also extending its seasonal Edinburgh-New York JFK service from May 9 to October 25 following the success of the route launched earlier this summer.
Edinburgh and a new Madrid route will join JetBlue’s existing transatlantic seasonal service from Boston to Amsterdam, Dublin and Gatwick, and year-round flights to Heathrow and Paris.
The US low fares carrier will offer seven daily non-stop services from Boston to Europe next summer.
JetBlue also serves Dublin and Edinburgh seasonally from New York JFK, while Amsterdam, Heathrow and Paris are operated year-round.
Based on their popularity, returning routes to Dublin and Edinburgh have been extended to the end of October, a month later than this year, according to the airline.
The new Boston flights support the airline’s strategy to build “the best” US east coast leisure network and return to sustained profitability.
Head of revenue, network and enterprise planning Daniel Shurz said: “Since launching flights to London in 2021, we’ve thoughtfully adjusted our European service to maximize value for our customers and our business.
“By aligning our schedule with peak seasonal demand and flying our aircraft to other destinations in the off-season, we’re capitalising from a business perspective while delivering the destinations and experiences our customers love. This approach is driving meaningful results.”
He added: “Europe continues to be part of our network strategy, as our loyal customers look for JetBlue’s signature service and low fares to bring them to top leisure destinations, including across the Atlantic.”
Edinburgh airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “This is a bit of an early Christmas present as JetBlue add a second destination from Edinburgh airport, providing even more connections between Scotland and the USA.
“The success of JetBlue’s Edinburgh to New York JFK route has demonstrated to the airline the clear demand for transatlantic travel from Scotland’s busiest airport, and we are delighted to see them add Boston to their schedule as well as extend that hugely successful JFK service.”
