Emirates is introducing a second daily flight from Gatwick to Dubai on the back of a bookings recovery.
The double-daily service follows UK bookings for Gatwick departures more than doubling since the start of the year after the airline returned to the airport in December.
The addition of the second daily Gatwick frequency takes Emirates’ total UK weekly flights to 91.
Gatwick is being served by both Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 widebody aircraft.
The airline currently offers a six-times-daily A380 Heathrow service, double-daily A380 flights from Manchester, 10 a week from Birmingham, daily from Glasgow, four a week from Newcastle and double-daily from Gatwick.
Emirates is now serving 120 destinations from its Dubai hub, almost 90% of its pre-pandemic network, as the airline continues to respond to the lifting of international travel restrictions around the world.
UK divisional vice president Richard Jewsbury said: “We have seen a considerable uptick in demand for international travel in recent weeks, particularly from the southeast and are pleased to be expanding our operations from Gatwick.
“Emirates is fully committed to the UK and we have operated flights from the airport for over 30 years, providing vital connectivity to Dubai and across our international network for passengers travelling for business, leisure or to visit loved ones.
“The route has also carried billions of pounds worth of cargo into and out of the region – supporting UK businesses of all shapes and sizes.”
The airport’s aviation development vice-president, Stephanie Wear, added: “We were delighted in December with Emirates’ return to Gatwick and this expansion of the service is testament to the success of operations here.
“The double-daily flights to Dubai will open up a fantastic range of destinations in Asia, Africa and beyond to tourists and businesses across the southeast.”
