Lufthansa has been forced to cancel the majority of flights affecting an estimated 100,000 passengers due to a walk out by ground staff.
The strike by the Verdi trade union is taking place today (Wednesday) and tomorrow.
The union has targeted the airline’s hubs at Frankfurt and Munich airports, together with Berlin, Hamburg and Dusseldorf.
The airline said: “Due to the strike, we currently assume that around 10% to 20% of the Lufthansa programme will be possible on 7 February.”
Verdi wants a pay rise of 12.5% for some 25,000 workers, or at least €500 more per month over a 12-month-period, plus a one-time payment of €3,000 to offset inflation.
Lufthansa said: “Please only come to the airport if your flight has not been cancelled. Due to the strike, the rebooking counters are unfortunately not staffed.
“Passengers affected by flight cancellations as a result of the Verdi strike will be informed by email or via the Lufthansa app. We regret the inconvenience for our guests.”
