Six-fold increase in early May bank holiday departures

The number of scheduled flight departures from the UK over the forthcoming early May bank holiday weekend is six times that seen during the same holiday period last year.

According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, there are 7,068 scheduled departures from April 30-May 2, equating to more than 1.2 million seats.

This departures figure is up by 521% compared to the 2021 early May bank holiday weekend last year (May 1-3, 2021), when there were just 1,139 departures, and Covid travel restrictions were widespread.

The number of departing flights from UK airports will be 22% down on the 2019 early May bank holiday weekend (May 4-6, 2019) when there were 9,020 scheduled departures.

The airline with the most UK scheduled departures is easyJet, with 1,489; followed by Ryanair (1,201), British Airways (1,096) and Jet2 (464).

The UK airport expected to see the most departures is Heathrow, with 1,619; followed by Gatwick (968), Manchester (671) and Stansted (670).

Most passengers are bound for Dublin, with Amsterdam, Palma de Mallorca and Malaga being the next most popular.
