Spain sees tourist arrivals almost recover to pre-Covid levels

The number of tourists visiting Spain rose by almost a quarter (23.7%) to reach 37.5 million in the first half of the year.

The UK was the top source market, with numbers rising year-on-year by almost 20% to 7.8 million.

The total number of arrivals was just 1.6% below levels seen prior to the pandemic.

The June total of UK travellers of almost two million was up by 9.6% over the same month in 2022 and accounted for almost 24% of the total, according to the Spanish Institute of National Statistics (INE).

However, total international visits of 8.3 million in June were 5.8% down on June 2019 but 10.9% up on the same month last year.

The Balearics attracted the highest number of international arrivals in the month at 2.1 million, with the UK and Germany each accounting for almost a third (30.9%) of the total.

The UK was also the main source country for Andalucia in June and the second highest for Catalonia.

Most tourists visiting Spain in June travelled by air, at more than seven million, representing an annual increase of 9.5%.

Travel by road accounted for 15.2% more tourists, rail for 26% more and 49.2% more for port arrivals.
