The Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards have been postponed from January until March 15, 2022 due to the ongoing uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Globe Travel Awards, recognised as the Oscars of the travel industry, have given travel sellers the opportunity to recognise and reward their favoured suppliers for more than 40 years. The 2022 ceremony was due to take place at London’s Grosvenor House hotel on January 13, marking a return for the industry’s top accolades after the 2021 awards were unable to take place due to lockdown measures.
Stuart Parish, Travel Weekly managing director, said: “The return of the Globes has received overwhelming support from both sponsors and travel agents who have taken the time to vote for their top suppliers.
“We were looking forward to hosting more than 1,200 friends, colleagues and partners on our traditional date in early January, but believe that postponing the event is the correct thing to do while the entire industry waits to see how the ongoing pandemic and government measures will impact our businesses.”
He added: “Despite the immense pressure the sector finds itself under once again, I have confidence it will rally in 2022.
“By delaying the Globe Awards until March, we can ensure we give the industry the ceremony and the celebration it deserves. We’ve waited two years, we can wait two more months.”
Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief, said: “Our agent readers have rallied behind the Globe Awards despite enduring such difficulties in recent times, and with more than 30,000 votes cast it is clear that recognising partners who have supported them throughout the pandemic is more important than ever.
“While it is disappointing not to be able to bring the industry together in January, the Travel Weekly team and I are committed to continuing to inform, inspire, support and connect the sector we remain at the heart of.”
She added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners and agent readers for the support they have shown us throughout 2021.
“Your continued commitment to our industry and professionalism through such a difficult period has been truly inspiring and I know we will see better times together in the future.”
