Young adult travellers could fall foul of Spanish and Dutch Covid restrictions

Brits travelling to Spain and the Netherlands are urged to double-check the destinations’ Covid-19 entry requirements as many could fall foul of rules about booster jabs.

For these two destinations, arrivals whose second vaccination is more than 270 days old will need either a booster – or come prepared with a negative test result.

Holiday Extras has warned that only 70% of people in their early 20s have had a third jab, so they could be held up at the border or even turned away, despite having had two vaccinations.

Those who received their second Covid-19 vaccine back in December and are yet to receive their booster may fall foul of the 270-day rule, says the ancillaries specialist.

The company estimates about 2.3 million trips a year are taken by Brits in their early 20s to Spain and the Netherlands.

A spokesperson said: “Ever since rules and regulations were first introduced, making sure we’ve double checked all the requirements is something we’ve all become used to – but as travel has returned to normal and we’re able to visit the majority of places with ease, it’s easy to miss the handful of rules still in force.

“Rules like this, especially for two of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations, reiterate the need to double-check the details before jetting off – especially for younger travellers.

“We’d recommend that everyone double-checks the entry rules for the destination they’re visiting in good time, and if eligible for their boosters – get them in good time, at least a fortnight before your departure date.”

From this week, about four million people most vulnerable to Covid-19 will start to be invited to book in their autumn booster vaccine.

Frontline health and care workers, immunosuppressed people, and people aged over 75 are the highest priority for the booster.

Adults aged 50 and over, those aged five to 49 with health conditions that put them at greater risk, and pregnant women will also be eligible for the jab at a later date.
