Celebrity Cruises has unveiled a programme of seven-night roundtrips from Seattle this summer, following the passing of a bill by the US Senate.
The Alaska Tourism Restoration Act will temporarily allow large cruise ships to bypass required stops in Canadian ports while travelling between Washington state and Alaska.
Carnival Corporation brands – Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line – and Norwegian Cruise Line last week announced plans for a resumption of sailing to the state.
Now Celebrity Cruises – part of Royal Caribbean Group – has revealed plans for Celebrity Summit to operate nine sailings from July 23 to mid-September.
They will mark Celebrity Summit’s first Alaska sailings. The ship will then reposition to the Caribbean, via a 16-night Panama Canal sailing, and begin a series of four- and five-night itineraries.
“Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and chief executive of Celebrity Cruises, welcomed news that cruises can resume, saying: “The Alaskan communities have been hurting without the economic support they receive from tourism, and especially, the cruise industry. I am grateful to our elected officials across the country for recognising the need and finding a way to restore them to their livelihoods.”
Celebrity’s Alaska cruises will visit Ketchikan, Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier, and Juneau – the capital city of Alaska.
All sailings on Celebrity Summit will depart with vaccinated crew and everyone over the age of 16 must be fully vaccinated. As of August 1, all US guests aged 12 and older must be fully vaccinated.
All new 2021 Alaska sailings will open for booking on Tuesday (May 25).
