Disney Cruise Line reveals name of new Wish-class vessel

Disney Cruise Line is set to name its next ship Disney Treasure and has outlined plans to open a second island destination in the Bahamas.

Disney Treasure, slated for delivery in 2024, will be the second of three Wish-class ships. All three vessels are scheduled to launch by 2026.

Each Wish-class vessel is powered by liquefied natural gas and features 1,254 staterooms. Disney Wish – the maiden Wish-class vessel – launched in July this year.

Disney Treasure will be designed with a “brand-new motif unlike anything Disney Cruise Line has done before”.

Disney Parks, experiences and products chairman Josh D’Amaro said: “At the heart of every adventure, there’s a treasure, and we can’t wait for you to create memories aboard this spectacular ship.”

He also revealed that work had started on Disney’s second island destination in the Bahamas, located on the island of Eleuthera. The development will be at Lighthouse Point on the island.

Passengers can also enjoy a recreation centre, dining, shopping, a water playground, and a cultural pavilion at the destination.

Disney is working closely with Bahamian artists and advisers to create “a destination that represents the natural beauty and rich culture of the Bahamas, brought to life through Disney storytelling”.

The line has committed to supplying 90% of the site’s power from solar energy and employing “sustainable building practices”. It will also donate more than 190 acres of privately-owned land to the Bahamian government.
