A-Rosa River Cruises’ latest vessel A-Rosa Sena has been awarded the “prestigious” gold level Green Award, thanks to its “innovative environmental credentials”.
The 280-passenger ship, which is currently operating on the Rhine river, features a hybrid propulsion system which combines a diesel engine and a separate electric motor powered by batteries.
A-Rosa said the vessel achieved the certification because of its exhaust gas cleaning system, “modern” V diesel engines, and energy management with battery storage.
Extra energy generated by the diesel engine is stored in the batteries, the line added.
The Green Award certification is awarded by the Green Award Foundation to ships and shipping firms, which have invested in improving environmental performance.
Inland vessels – such as A-Rosa Sena – that have applied for the programme are checked during an inspection and then classified into one of three levels: bronze, silver or gold.
