Marella Cruises launches literature-themed sailing

Marella Cruises has unveiled its first literature-themed cruise, featuring novelists, entertainers and writing workshops.

The all-inclusive 16-night cruise on adults-only ship Marella Explorer 2 will depart from Montego Bay, Jamaica, on April 19, 2022, bound for Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Chris Hackney, managing director of Tui-owned Marella Cruises, said the company had seen success with its Electric Sunsets themed cruises, based on Nineties and Noughties music.

He added: “We are excited to introduce our first themed cruise for literature fans next year. It offers something different for guests onboard on a cruise where there are not as many days ashore as some of our other itineraries.”

Called Transatlantic Sunsets Writing Cruise, it will feature talks from Sarah Cruddas – who has written about space travel and the solar system – and Joe Wadstack, co-author of The Richard and Judy Wine Guide and This Morning’s resident wine expert.

Entertainers on the cruise include Tony Strange in an Elizabethan-themed experience and actor Shaun Williamson – known as Barry from EastEnders and a passionate quizzer. Williamson has written a book about the country’s quiz scene, called A Matter of Facts: One Man’s Journey into the Nation’s Quiz Obsession.

Writing workshops will be held with authors and poets such as Claire Buckle, Jacqueline Gabbitas and Barbara Nadel.
