Princess Cruises has taken delivery of its final Royal-class ship Discovery Princess at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
The 3,660-passenger vessel is the sixth Royal-class new-build and the 15th ship in the line’s fleet.
Princess Cruises’ president John Padgett, the ship’s captain Gennaro Arma and Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of Fincantieri’s merchant ships division, attended the handover ceremony.
Discovery Princess (pictured) will soon reposition to Port of Los Angeles where it will offer a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages from March 27 to April 24.
After that, the ship will head to Seattle where it will operate seven-night Alaska cruises.
Princess’ latest vessel features Sky Suites with 270-degree views, adults-only retreat The Sanctuary and new West End-style production shows.
It is also enabled with Princess’ MedallionClass technology, which allows swifter embarkation, Wi-Fi, onboard navigation, cabin entry and for food and drinks to be ordered and delivered. All 15 Princess ships now have the technology.
Padgett said: “We extend our immense gratitude to our long-time and trusted partners at Fincantieri, the shipbuilders of all six of our Royal-Class vessels with Discovery Princess.
“[We] look forward to welcoming our first guests to experience the beauty of the ship when they embark in just a few weeks.”
