Uniworld launches ‘super ship’ Sphinx on the Nile

Uniworld’s new ‘super ship’ has started operations on the Nile, with 12-day itinerary Splendors of Egypt & The Nile.

The 42-suite Sphinx vessel offers a private dining room and al fresco dining on the upper deck. Passengers can choose to pair foods such as beef liver, sweet corn soup and mulukhiya Egyptian bread with local wines.

A swimming pool and massage room are also available on board.

Ellen Bettridge, the line’s chief executive and president, said: “As Egypt continues to be a top trending travel destination, we’re overjoyed to set sail along the Nile River and provide an unmatched look at the destination aboard our striking new super ship, the Sphinx.

“Over the past few years, our team poured their heart into sourcing the design aspects, spending weeks at a time searching the souks and bazaars to find local artisans and family-owned furniture businesses to collaborate with and bring the true spirit of Egypt to life onboard.

“Everything from the artwork to the ceilings to the ship’s bow was thought out and sourced by the local community.”

The 12-day itinerary includes four nights in Cairo, staying at the Four Seasons Cairo and leads in at £5,129 – with  return flights and a one-way business class upgrade – until October 31. A December 4 departure, calling at Dendera; Esna; Edfu; Kom Ombo and Aswan, starts from £6,299.
