Members of staff from luxury operator Carrier are set to run the Manchester Marathon on April 16 to raise money for cancer charity Maggie’s.
A total of 14 employees from the operator’s sales, product, concierge, and client experience teams are set to take part, including Antra Bovkuna, Basczia Carmichael, Cathy Bohan, Ellie Bishop, Josie Graham, Liz Godwin, Lorraine Norcross, Merridith Lewis-George, Michelle Dempsey, Pam du Plessis, Rachel Watson, Rebecca Murray, Rick Milne and Lucy Wybraniec.
The group will run a combination of distances, with some completing an individual marathon and others partaking in two and four-person relays.
The team hopes to raise £2,000 for the Manchester arm of Maggie’s, which provides emotional, financial and psychological support to anyone affected by cancer.
Carrier, which is based in Didsbury, has covered the team’s race entry fee and will match every donation.
Head of sales Rick Milne said: “We were recently invited to visit our local Maggie’s centre to look around and really understand what it is they do. There is a Maggie’s centre a few minutes’ walk from every major cancer hospital in the UK. They are incredible spaces dedicated to providing support to anyone affected by cancer.
“Patients being treated for cancer and their families can walk in and speak to trained cancer specialists, access on-site psychologists and take part in the many group activities taking place each day. Or it’s just an alternative place to wait than in hospital waiting rooms – there are cosy seating areas with open fireplaces, beautiful outside spaces and complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits.
“It’s an incredible place and totally free to users, funded completely by donations. We’re really pleased to be supporting them. For the team running, it’s been a great opportunity to get involved. There are so many benefits to running from keeping fit, making new friends, and improving your mental health. We have some runners in the group, but some of the team have never done anything like this before. We have a Whatsapp chat to share tips and keep motivation going.”
