G Adventures unveils community tourism projects in India

G Adventures and its non-profit partner, Planeterra, have unveiled four new social enterprises offering experiences for travellers on trips to India.

The partners have also announced Incredible India as the headline sponsor for next week’s GX World Community Tourism Summit (September 24-28).

Bruce Poon Tip, founder of G Adventures and Planeterra, said: “Community tourism is an increasing focus for Incredible India, so sponsoring GX is a natural fit as tourism returns and builds back in a better way.

“We are delighted to be able to collaborate with Incredible India as we showcase our newest community tourism experiences.

“These are all designed to give back through travel and help change the lives of local people through the economic support of tourism, as well as delivering memorable and life-changing activities to our travellers.”

While attending GX, delegates will either have the opportunity to experience the project firsthand, or to sample it during a “Planeterra Marketplace” which will showcase the projects.

The four new initiatives are Anoothi India, a textile workshop led by women from marginalised communities in the Jaipur region; Pink City Rickshaw (pictured), which offers work for women from low-income households and eco-friendly transportation; Sheroes Hangout in Agra, a café that supports acid attack survivors; and Sunder Rang, an arts and crafts centre in Chandelao, Rajasthan.

The summit will also showcase other experiences offered by G Adventures and Planeterra, including Women With Wheels’ airport transfer service and Salaam Baalak Trust’s Delhi City Walk.
