Data shows rise in travel vacancies, candidates and placements in July

The number of travel job vacancies, candidates and placements all increased last month for the first time since January, according to the latest figures from C&M Travel Recruitment.

Vacancies rose by 12% in July to reach their highest point since March, despite July traditionally being a quiet month for the sector, while the number of candidates searching for a job rose by 19% last month and by 9% on July 2023.

The month also had the second-highest number of new candidates for the month of July since 2017.

The number of candidates placed in new jobs rose by 13% month on month, but volumes were down on last year – a 36% drop was recorded compared with the same month in 2023.

C&M Travel Recruitment managing director Barbara Kolosinska said: “With so many candidates and decision-makers away on holiday, July is typically one of the quieter months of the year for travel recruitment, so it’s extremely welcome that new jobs, candidates and placements all rose from June.

“In particular, to see the number of new jobs jump to a four-month high in the month of July is extremely rare and something that hasn’t happened for at least a decade.

“However, we do need to acknowledge that overall volumes are still down from last year and compared to the typical volumes that we’ve seen in previous Julys. But we’re hopeful that July 2024’s very encouraging figures will continue to gain momentum through the end of summer and into autumn.”
