Lata Foundation appeals for regular donors

The charitable arm of the Latin America Travel Association (Lata) has appealed for regular donors as it tries to build funds back up to pre-pandemic levels.

Lata Foundation chair Jude Berry (pictured) told Travel Weekly funds were diminished during the pandemic as the charity continued to support the projects to which it was committed, while receiving fewer donations.

She appealed for regular donors to help build the foundation’s funding back up.

The Lata Foundation supports social and environmental projects in Latin America aiming to help those most in need, and has raised £554,526 since its launch in 2007.

“We were really lucky in that we had a strong 2019 which allowed us to continue to support all the projects we had committed to prior to the pandemic, but now we need to concentrate on building our funds back up to where they were before the pandemic hit,” said Berry.

“We were on a great growth trajectory back in 2019 and we want to get back to that point and surpass it.

“To do that, we need regular donors. We are so grateful to all the donors we’ve got already but to have regular donations would really help us out as it would allow us to forecast better for the year ahead and know which projects we can support.

“We are also hoping to see the return of our annual fundraising quiz which was always such a popular event but we haven’t been able to do it since 2019.”

Berry added: “We just want to get our mojo back and keep supporting people who need us.”
