Recruiter sees ‘healthy’ rise in new jobseekers but vacancies dip

The number of new jobseekers searching for travel roles increased by 18% in October to reach its highest level in three months, according to C&M Travel Recruitment.

Compared to previous years, October’s total was down by 19% from the same month last year and down by 21% from October 2019, in pre-pandemic times.

There was also a rise in the number of candidates being placed in new jobs in the travel industry, with a 7% increase from September.

However, C&M said October’s total was down by a “steep” 63% from the same month in 2022’s record-setting year.

New vacancies fell in October by 9% compared to September to reach their lowest point in six months. Last month’s figure was also down by 56% from October 2022.

Barbara Kolosinska, managing director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: “The last time candidates and placements both increased in the same month was back in May, so there are lots of positives to take from these figures. In particular, it’s great to see a healthy rise in new jobseekers.

“As we enter the start of winter, we’re unlikely to see a big increase in recruitment until the new year.

“But January is always one of the very busiest months for recruitment with a much-increased level of competition for the best candidates – meaning there are real opportunities out there right now to take advantage of the quieter market and secure great talent in time for the peak season.”

All figures for the monthly activity index are drawn from the month’s new vacancies advertised with C&M Travel Recruitment.
