Spain considers abolition of face masks indoors

A relaxation of facemask rules in Spain could be in place before Easter, according to local reports.

The use of face coverings remain mandatory indoors but Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez suggested on Sunday that they would be cease to be obligatory “soon, very soon.”

Dropping this requirement would be because of the country’s “formidable response” to the pandemic, with a decision down to health minister Carolina Darias.

Spanish and regional government ministers are due to discuss face masks at a meeting tomorrow (Thursday).

Face masks became mandatory in all public spaces in Spain two years ago as the pandemic hit.

The obligatory use of masks outdoors was only lifted last month after restrictions were reintroduced around Christmas.
