Tui has started a summer season of flights from Gatwick and Manchester to Ohrid in North Macedonia.
One flight per week will operate from London and Manchester until September 20, with a Boeing 737-800.
The operator of Ohrid St Paul the Apostle airport, TAV Macedonia, expects to handle about 6,000 passengers from Tui’s flights during the summer season.
Chris Logan, Tui Ski, Lakes and Mountains managing director, said: “North Macedonia has been a less well-known destination for UK holidaymakers, but that is starting to change, and Tui are confident that as soon as our customers return home, word of mouth will spread to friends and family to experience this unique destination for themselves.”
Nejat Kurt, TAV Macedonia general manager, added: “[The flights] will open opportunities for travellers to explore the breath-taking beauty and rich cultural heritage of picturesque Ohrid.
“Ohrid has long been regarded as a hidden gem, offering a captivating blend of natural wonders and historical landmarks.
“We aim to make this remarkable destination easily accessible, providing our guests the opportunity to discover the Unesco-listed Old Town, visit the ancient monasteries and churches, and immerse themselves in the local tradition and warm hospitality.”
Mountains cover 80% of the land and Lake Ohrid is North Macedonia’s largest lake, and the deepest in the Balkans.
