More than 5m Britons are planning a UK break during the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday, bringing an estimated £1.2bn boost to the economy.
The survey by VisitEngland revealed 5.3m people plan to take an overnight break during the four-day weekend, with ‘city’ or ‘large town’ topping the list as the most popular destination type.
The survey also showed more than 19m people are planning on taking part in celebration activities, including eating out, street parties and watching events on outdoor screens.

Patricia Yates, VisitEngland chief executive, said: “The long weekend is set to bring a much-needed boost to the industry and destinations as the summer season gets underway and our outstanding tourism businesses will be very pleased to welcome you back.
“From afternoon teas and street parties to beacon lighting ceremonies, pageants and parades, people are set to celebrate with friends and neighbours in royal style.”
The Jubilee weekend is also expected to prompt an influx of overseas tourists in the UK.
Inbound tourism body UKinbound has encouraged the sector to build on the boost to business the weekend will bring, as many of its 300-plus members are to host overseas visitors who have planned their visit to coincide with festivities.
