A global movement to encourage travel more consciously and sustainably through pledges is being instigated by Travelzoo.
Travelzoo employees set a goal of reaching 10,000 pledges from travellers by December 31 at a global company meeting in Venice last month.
The online deals firm’s #TravelforTomorrow initiative calls on consumers to make a personal pledge to become a conscious traveller.
The company said: “It could even be a small pledge, such as supporting local businesses, forgoing single-use plastic, choosing public transportation when possible, choosing off-the-beating path destinations, or respecting the local culture.
“Travellers are asked to post their pledge on social media with the hashtag #TravelforTomorrow to demonstrate their commitment and inspire others.”
Travelzoo claims to have more than 30 million members, eight million mobile app users, and four million social media followers.
