BRITISHAirways is to double its Gatwick-Atlanta schedule to two flights a day from summer 2000.
It is the first time for a decade the carrier has offered a double-daily US operation from Gatwick.
The announcement follows Delta Air Lines’ decision to triple its daily Gatwick-Atlanta service in June (Travel Weekly February 7).
Also at Gatwick, BA subsidiary Cityflyer is increasing flights to Luxembourg to five a day from four on March 26. The move will coincide with BA dropping double daily Luxembourg flights from Heathrow.
Cityflyer is poised to take over more short-haul BA flights, and operate them from Gatwick, following its £75m buyout by the major carrier last year.
n BA franchise carrier British Mediterranean Airways launches thrice weekly Heathrow-Baku flights on April 1. The service replaces a BA operation from Gatwick.
