Harthern considers making alternative ball an annual event

BOLTON-BASED agent Barrie Harthern is considering making his alternative ABTA ball an annual event after selling two-thirds of the tickets in the first fortnight they were released.

Hathern, chairman of Astley Bridge Travel, decided to organise his own northern version of ABTA’s 50th anniversary event because he felt the official event was overpriced at £160 a head (Travel Weekly May 15).

Tickets for his event, on August 19, cost £30 and Hathern said more than 70 of the 100 tickets had been sold already.

“The alternative northern ball may even become an annual event for us,” said Harthern.
