ABTA members given equal polling option
The populist sentiment expressed in the letter about procedure for election of the ABTApresident is not substantiated by the facts (Travel Weekly May 15)All ABTAmembers have an equal opportunity to elect representatives of their turnover category to the board and the new constitution, with the revised presidential voting procedure, was approved by 96.4% of those members who voted for the blueprint.
All members vote for their representative, who in turn vote for the choice of president, who is primarily the chairman of the board. In all companies, the chairman of the board is selected by the directors who need to be able to strike an effective working relationship for effective corporate governance.
In so far as the members having the opportunity to decide who should lead the association, the established procedures do precisely that.
