Olympic to enter long-haul market

OLYMPIC Holidays is set to enter the long-haul market with the launch of a programme featuring Egypt, Dubai, the Maldives and Goa.

The operator will use both scheduled and charter flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester and target between 8,000 to 10,000 passengers in its first year. A brochure will be launched in mid-July.

However, commercial director Photis Lambrianides stressed that Greece and Cyprus will remain the company’s focus.

He said the move into long haul was part of an overall company expansion aimed at increasing capacity.

“The main growth will still be from Greece and Cyprus. That is where our emphasis will remain,” said Lambrianides. “The move into long haul is part and parcel of our growth. Our present rate of expansion obviously cannot be maintained forever given that we currently only offer two destinations.”

He said the emphasis of the new programme will be on upmarket accommodation.

Olympic is recruiting three staff with long-haul expertise to get the programme off the ground.

The operation will be based at its London headquarters where it has recently expanded.
