n gatwick venue for advantage conference
Advantage Business Travel Centres will hold its fourth annual independent conference at the Meridian Hotel, Gatwick on November 7. Speakers will include ABTA chief executive Ian Reynolds who will talk about the association’s relationship with business travel agents, and Deloitte Touche head of aviation Mark Darby who will talk about low-cost airlines.
n cosmos to hold clubbers guide party
Cosmos will hold two parties for agents to celebrate the launch of its new Clubber’s Guide to Travel 2001 programme. One event will be held at the Ministry of Sound in London on July 20 and another will take place in Manchester on July 18. The club is to be confirmed. Four tickets are available per agency on a first come first served basis. Free transport is available from several pick up points.
n thurso calls for government support
New Tourism Society president Lord Thurso has called on the Government to give the industry a higher priority and to provide more support to small businesses. Thurso, who is managing director of Fitness and Leisure Holdings, has replaced Lord Montagu of Beaulieu who was the society’s president for nine years.
n Three degrees to headline at ABTA event
More than 1,000 tickets have already been sold for ABTA’s 50th anniversary dinner. The evening will feature headline act The Three Degrees, who will be especially flown over for the event from Philadelphia in the US. Despite high levels of criticism that the ticket price was set too high for agents, most of the tables have been bought. Only a couple of hundreds tickets are still to be sold.
