KLM seeks lower costs with winter service cuts
KLM is making widespread changes to its winter services, including the axing of flights, as it aims to cut costs. The move is part of the carrier’s Baseline programme which looks at ways of improving its yield.
“KLM has scrutinised each individual flight even more closely than in previous years to assess its contribution to the company’s overall result,” a spokesman said.
It has yet to reveal which flights will go, although it is the frequency not the destinations which are likely to be dropped.
“On many European routes the type of aircraft deployed will change and services operated at a loss, especially at the weekends, will be terminated,” the spokesman added.
However, flights to north, south and central America will be increased.
Despite the anticipated cuts on European routes, capacity will be maintained at summer levels.
Meanwhile, KLM will cease its codesharing with Regional Airlines of France at the start of the winter schedule which begins on October 29.
