Stena Line extends fare deal to bolster mid-week sailings

STENA Line has extended a cheap Wednesday Fare deal until the end of the year in an effort to boost demand on quiet mid-week sailings across the Irish Sea.

The price of a trip out of Holyhead or Fishguard starts at £94 for a car and a driver, so long as the departure and return dates fall on Wednesdays. There is no limit on the time you can spend in Ireland.

Bookings must be made by December 27 and return travel completed by January 3.

A company spokeswoman said: “Wednesday is a fairly slack day. This is a good opportunity to offer a competitive fare and get volumes up.”

She pointed out that Stena could no longer rely on duty-free goods to encourage travellers to take trips outside the peak season.

The spokeswoman admitted that business to Ireland had been flat generally this year, following several years of strong growth.

“The weather has not been good and that makes people want to go further afield,” she said.

Meanwhile, Stena and Virgin Trains are offering a new £29 rail and ferry deal for passengers travelling from Watford Junction, just outside London, to Dublin.

The fare is available for bookings made 14 days or more in advance of travel.
