Successful year for Aer Lingus

THE annual Aer Lingus Group report has revealed an increase in profits, capacity and passenger numbers.


Group chairman Bernie Cahill welcomed the results.


“Many full service international carriers have found the going tough over the past 18 months. Aer Lingus, I am pleased to report, has turned in a good performance in a difficult environment and is in very good shape for the future,” he said.


Highlights from the 1999 report show:


* Operating profits up 7% to £44.8 million


* A 12% rise in turnover on continuing operations to £709 million


* Profits of £1.6 million allocated to employees under the employee share participation scheme


* Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and aircraft rentals as a proportion of turnover (EBITDAR margin) 18.8%


* Shareholders funds up 23% to £185.4 million


* Year-end net cash and liquid resources up 83% to £101.4 million.


The report also shows:


* Passengers carried up 13% to 6.5 million


* Capacity, measured by available tonne kilometre, increased 14% to 1,239 million ATK’s.
