Silversea looks to UK for growth
LUXURY cruiseline Silversea is looking to triple its number of UK passengers to help fill a 140% increase in capacity by next summer.
The company has just added 70% more capacity with last month’s launch of its newest ship, the 388-passenger Silver Shadow.
Another 70% will be added next July, with the delivery of another vessel, its sister ship Silver Whisper.
President and chief operating officer Bill Smith said: “Last year we carried 15,000 passengers, of which 30% came from Europe, so we must be able to do more.
“The European market has tended to be boxed out by the US market, who usually book early. With four ships, we have the extra capacity and we can spend more time in destinations that appeal to Europeans.”
Silver Shadow was launched in Italy and will spend this autumn in the Caribbean before moving on to the Panama Canal and South America. It will then go to Africa in April before heading for the Mediterranean next summer.
