Still hanging on the telephone Touchdown
Each week I study the Travel Agent Offers page and dream of travelling to far off destinations.
As we all know time, other commitments and money does not allow for continuous holidaying.
However, I was lucky enough to travel to Johannesburg, together with my family in late August.
After calling all the travel clubs I know, I paid what I thought was a good price.
I was therefore stunned to open your travel agents offer page on September 11 to read that I could have travelled on South African Airlines for over £80 less per person.
So why didn’t I book it with Touchdown?
No, not because I travelled in August and this offer only appeared in September.
Perhaps because of all the clubs, Touchdown was the only company I was unable to contact. As we do not have access to the Internet at work, I initially tried to phone them.
Telephone contact can only be made during certain hours and so I spent two lunch hours in answer queues to Touchdown.
In the first instance, my call was eventually cut off. In the second, I had to return to the counter.
I then wrote a letter and faxed it off requesting availability and price.
To date I have had no reply.
I wonder how long we would remain in business if we limited the times when our customers could call, keep them in answer queues indefinitely and then ignore their letters?
