questions and answers
Below are a few of the most commonly asked questions posed by clients thinking about booking a diving holiday. Answers are supplied with the help of the Red Sea Sports Club guide to selling scuba diving.
Can anyone dive?
Pregnant women are prevented from diving along with those suffering from asthma, sinus infections, heart problems or any other illness that may affect breathing. Even if you arrive at the resort with a cold or ear infection, you may not be able to dive.
Is the theory difficult?
No. If a 12-year-old can understand the basics so can one of your clients.
Do my clients need to be strong swimmers?
No. They simply need to demonstrate they can swim approximately 200 metres.
How deep will they go?
To the bottom of a swimming pool, then with training they will progress to deeper dives in the sea to a maximum of 18 metres, the upper-most limit for safe diving at a basic standard.
What other costs are involved when booking a dive course?
To complete the course, a student will need to purchase a diver manual and certificate which can be bought separately or as part of a Professional Association of Diving Instructors’ kit. PADI kits can be purchased in resort or prior to travelling. It is often useful to buy the kit beforehand as the manual is quite extensive.
What about medical checks?
On day one, students must complete a medical indemnity form after which the participant may be asked to undertake a medical exam and chest X-ray
