Consumer poll highlights lack of knowledge on travel cover
MORE than 10% of consumers don’t know what their travel insurance policy covers, according to research from Primary Insurance.
In the poll of 1,000 people, 11% said they don’t read their policy; 39% said they had no idea whether their home insurance would provide cover if their baggage was lost on holiday; and 33% didn’t know if their credit card would pay out if they had to cancel.
Some 7% said they never bought travel insurance.
Primary highlighted that people who don’t read their policy would not know if they were covered for pre-existing medical conditions or for certain sporting activities while on holiday.
Managing director John Bibby said: “Ironically, 66% of consumers said they buy travel insurance because it gives them peace of mind – it’s a pity that more than one in 10 doesn’t bother to check whether the policy is actually providing the cover expected.”
