State eases into bed-and-breakfast mode
CHARACTER bed and breakfasts reflecting the traditional lifestyles and hospitality of South Australia will be the centre of attention next week.
The state has just developed an on-line view-and-book system that operators and agents can use to find alternative accommodation for independent itineraries.
A spokesperson for the South Australian Tourism Commission said: “One of the unique ways to sample the true hospitality of the state is to stay in a bed and breakfast. Many of these properties are of cultural or historical interest and there are over 400 to choose from. The trade can view these properties and book on-line by accessing the South Australian Bed-and-Breakfast Association’s Web site.”
The accommodation ranges from old homesteads and quaint country cottages to river paddle boats and working farms, and even former churches and fire stations.
The association said there is a wide range of prices, and booking requests are processed within 24 hours. The new facility is part of a wider selection of product that South Australia is promoting.
Aside from the gateway city attractions of Adelaide, the state is increasing its emphasis on the Barossa Valley wine region; wildlife trips to Kangaroo Island; and safari tours incorporating the Flinders Ranges and Outback region.
Details of new two and three-day adventure and wildlife packages of Kangaroo Island and its Coorong National Park will be available at World Travel Market.
They are being marketed as part of an eco-cruise put together by Kangaroo Island Sealink, which ferries visitors to the destination from historic Goolwa and Victor Harbour on the Fleurieu Peninsula, a one hour 45-minute drive south of Adelaide.
