Record island delegation targets 2001

HAWAII Visitors and Convention Bureau president and chief executive officer Tony Vericella is making his first visit to World Travel Market to support the Pacific island’s biggest-ever delegation of 14 participants.

His visit follows a year of significant development from the UK market.

HVCB UK representative Julie Blisset said: “Although no specific UK arrivals figures are available, we do know the British market is performing very well this year.

“Our plan for next year is to further educate the trade – following on from our highly successful Aloha City consumer promotion, which ran in London last March.”

The event was based around Hawaiian food and entertainment.

She added: “Although it is still in the planning stages, we aim to use the same approach as part of training seminars for agents in the week prior to World Travel Market 2001.

“We also hope to be able to stage similar sessions in some UK regions.”

Blisset said that the bureau wants to direct agents towards selling lucrative niche products such as weddings and honeymoon packages and golfing holidays.

She pointed out that leading hotel group Outrigger Hotels, which is exhibiting at WTM,is offering agents the chance to experience the destination with special accommodation rates for retailers at selected properties each month.

Another development to aid itinerary planning will be introduced by the bureau on its redesigned Web site, www.-gohawaii.com, by the end of the first quarter of next year.

Blisset said that personalised multi-island itineraries can be produced on request, including hotel stays, activities and tours.
