Industry told to back national training body

THE industry should be ashamed of its lack of support for its national training body, delegates at the ABTAconvention in Kos were told.

Motivational expert and ARTAC Worldchoice non-executive director Chris Daffy accused companies of ignoring the Travel and Tourism Services and Events National Training Organisation and not spending enough time and money on staff training.

“There is a 35% churn rate in this industry and we should be ashamed of ourselves that we don’t support TTENTO,” he said. “We are not investing in people for training.”

His remarks follow moves by TTENTO last month to seek emergency financial help from ABTA after a shortfall in funds.

He added that in the last decade, not one tour operator or travel agent has been singled out for its customer service.

“There is a fantastic opportunity for someone to become famous for its service,” Daffy concluded.
