&#42 customers put off by service fees

Over a quarter of people would stop using a travel agent if charged a service fee of £15 for a consultation, according to research by ABTA. The survey showed 27% would make their own travel arrangements if asked to make a charge; 31% would book direct through a tour operator while 21% would still use an agent.

&#42 comtec buys share in systems company

E-commerce supplier Comtec has bought a 100% share in travel agency systems company Leisure Network Solutions. Comtec already owned a 50.1% stake. Both companies will continue to trade separately. Leisure Network Solutionsis based in Hull, while Comtec is based in Wales.

&#42 security fears stop people booking on-line

Security fears are the main reason that people with Internet access do not use it to book travel, according to the ABTA/MORI poll. Of those questioned, 14% said they were worried about security and 18% preferred face-to-face advice.
