Suspected fire grounds Continental Airlines jet

Report by John Lavabre

A CONTINENTAL Airlines jet was forced to land at Glasgow airport
earlier today when a suspected fire was detected in its hold.

The aircraft, which was on its way to New York Newark
airport from Glasgow, landed safely at 1.45pm. Equipment on board the plane had
registered smoke in the hold. A spokeswoman for Glasgow airport said it
appeared to have been a false alarm and there was no fire.

The passengers have all been taken to nearby hotels and it
is thought they will resume their journey tomorrow.
