Industry figures to address GBTAyouth forum

REPRESENTATIVES from British Midland and Galileo UKwill join the Guild of Business Travel Agents’ forum for young people, which will hold its first meeting on November 1.

The GBTA agreed at its annual conference in Lucerne, Switzerland, to invite young people in the industry to form a working party to air their views on technology and the future of business travel (Travel Weekly May 31).

Called the Future Leaders Group, the idea is to get young and talented people in GBTA member companies together with suppliers to discuss what the future holds for the travel industry. All members will be under 35.

It will be chaired by Travel Centre Norwich managing director Rachel Crampton and will also include representatives from business travel agencies, including Gray Dawes Travel, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Horncastle Travel.

The names of panel members are being finalised and will be disclosed shortly.

Meanwhile, GBTAmembers have voiced concern over the increase in credit-card fraud, particularly where corporate lodge cards are used to guarantee hotel bookings by telephone or fax.

In one instance a hotel employee was arrested in possession of a list of 50 credit-card numbers.

GBTAhotel working party chairman James Myles said:”The GBTAwants this to be stamped out and we will be holding urgent talks with our hotel partners and lodge card providers to identify what can be done to improve security.”
