How the airlines fared

MONARCH Airlines has shown improvement in the number of delays according to the
Air Transport Users Council league table of charter airline delays. In 1996
average delays were 39 minutes, dropping to 32 minutes last year.

Eurocypria Airlines came top of the league despite having average delay
times of 33 minutes. Newcomer Islandsflug was bottom with half its flights
delayed for more than one hour and an average delay of two hours. The AUC
comparison is based on Civil Aviation Authority statistics at nine UK airports:
Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle
and Stansted. Delays are defined as the difference between the planned and
actual times of operation.
