The following help is at hand for businesses affected by the foot and mouth crisis
* Small companies can defer VAT payments for up to two years and tax for up to three months if they present evidence of falling sales to the tax office.
* The Government’s loan-guarantee scheme can underwrite a bank loan of up to £250,000. Contact your local bank or ring 0114 2597308.
* Apply to your local council to defer rate payments. Special hardship relief is also available to reduce rate bills.
* The Valuation Office Agency can reduce the rateable value of your property on the grounds it has been lowered by the outbreak. VOA’s website is www.voa.gov.uk.
* Speak to your bank manager about a rescue package for your business or contact the Business Debtline on 0800 1976026 for free advice on how to manage your debts.
