TRAVELLERS
have been advised against going to areas in Jamaica where violent
demonstrations have taken place.
The
country’s security forces have been involved in gun battles and unofficial
roadblocks have been set up in several areas, including the capital Kingston.
Resort
areas in the north, including Montego Bay are not affected, although the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises care should be taken when travelling to
and from Kingston Airport and that visitors should be prepared for fuel shortages.
Reports have linked the violence to fighting between the
government and opposition Jamaica Labour Party.
