BathTravel has launched a Web site despite previous reservations about selling holidays over the Internet. Joint managing director Stephen Bath told delegates at the ABTA Convention in Cairns that agents were better off buying a new carpet than setting up a Web site. Its site, bathtravel.com, will have 75,000 holidays available at any one time. Clients can confirm their arrangements by e-mail, telephone or fax, or visit a Bath Travel branch.

ABTA Greater London Region has replaced its travel insurance provider Derek Ketteridge with the Travel Protection Group. Chairman Allan Beaver said the TPG package was chosen because of the absence of excesses and the lack of a US differential on worldwide rates.

Hotels must offer the latest technology if they are going to keep ahead of the market, according to Jarvis Hotels marketing director Hugh Taylor. Speaking at the Hotel Marketing Association debate in London, Taylor said hotels needed to stay on top of technological advances. “This isn’t revolution, it’s evolution. It’s going to happen.” He said technology was about boosting customer service.
