Polar bears: a top attraction of the Manitoba province
Manitoba minister for heritage, culture and tourism Ron Lemieux led a recent delegation to the UK to raise the profile of the little-known heartland province.
Travel Manitoba sales and promotions manager Dennis Maksymetz was also part of the delegation, which, according to Lemieux, sought to establish why Manitoba is not performing as it might in the UK, and how it can raise its profile.
“I would call this a fact-finding mission, not a sales mission,” said Lemieux.
“We wanted to speak to people and hear what they thought was lacking.”
The delegation met with several UK operators, including Frontier Travel, Canada 4U, Discover the World and Go Fishing Canada.
“We see tourism as having so much potential to increase – it’s going to be one of the fastest growing industries in Manitoba,” Lemieux said, stressing its value for money.
“Your pound will go a lot further in Manitoba than it will in Ontario or Alberta.”
