Cut costs not commission BA

We have just received from British Airways – by courier, next day delivery – a pack of module two training packs.

Am I missing something here? BA has announced that commissions are to be scrapped so what is the point in sending this out? This pack must have cost about £5 postage – multiply this by the number of International Air Transport Association agents – which could go towards paying agents’ commissions.

I am beginning to think airlines and the larger tour companies are being run by half-wits with the money which is being wasted on so-called marketing ideas.

We’ve had chocolates sent out to every IATA agent to promote a new route. A flyer is all that is needed. We’ve had a fluorescent sign advertising British Airways Appointed Agent – costing at least £200 per agent that was delivered and set up in every IATA agency. We sometimes receive up to a dozen sheets of fares, all in separate envelopes with each one posted first class – all posted from the same department at BA.

BA has cut our commission from 9% to 7% and this is going to be reduced even further. Why doesn’t it look at its own management in order to cut costs, as they are the ones who seem to be wasting money, instead of taking it away from agents who work damn hard for their living.
