GO
IS aiming to double the number of passengers it carries, boost the number of
aircraft it flies and increase its staff to over 1,000 by next year, according
to chief executive Barbara Cassani.
The
low-cost carrier set out its plans for the future after reporting a 50%
increase in pre-tax profits for the six months to September 30, a 44% increase
in turnover and a similar percentage rise in passenger numbers on the same time
last year. Two million passengers travelled with Go in the six months to the
end of September.
Cassani
said: “Recent developments in the airline industry have presented opportunities
for the low cost sector. We are continuing to reduce costs to protect profits
in this new lower yield environment, and our strategy remains clear – we will
continue to grow by adding new routes and bases.”
Go
will also take advantage of a drop in aircraft leasing costs to add to its
fleet, said Cassani.
