* new roles for Beachcomber founders
Beachcomber Tours founders Warren Raybould and Rosanne Te Roller have gone into semi-retirement. The pair, who held the posts of company secretary and operations manager respectively, set up the Guildford-based Mauritius specialist in 1989. Raybould and Te Roller will remain shareholders and will chair the firm’s management board. They have been replaced by Michael Edwards who becomes managing director.
* Star alliance offers free flights incentive
Star Alliance has launched a travel agent promotion in a bid to boost ticket sales. Agents can win one of 12 pairs of tickets to any one of Star Alliance’s 830 destinations by booking a single round-the-world ticket or three separate bookings on any alliance member flight. There will also be the chance for agents to win one of 10 Philips DVDplayers, 60 £20 HMV vouchers and 25 pairs of cinema tickets. The offer is only available to Air Travel Organiser’s Licence and International Air Transport Association members and bookings must be made before December 23.
* Thrifty Brings in new reservations system
Thrifty Car Rental is changing its agents reservations system to an Internet-based system in a bid to make bookings quicker and easier for agents. It is also bringing in a new reservations system for its Silver Bullet corporate customers to enable staff to handle calls more efficiently and provide customers with access to more information.
